ISLA DE VIEQUES
Paradise, also known as Isla de Vieques, is an island
municipality of Puerto Rico, located just two miles east of the main
island. Often referred to as part of the “Spanish Virgin Islands”, this
Martha’s Vineyard size island is the second largest of Puerto Rico's
islands, and therefore is charmingly known as “Isla Nena” or the Little
Sister Island. Measuring nearly twenty-one miles in length (east-west) and
approximately four miles in width (north-south), the 52 square mile volcanic
Caribbean island is overflowing with undeveloped natural beauty,
archaeological history, and funky old-world Caribbean charm.
Vieques is the ultimate vacation island for those looking for warm weather, natural beauty, adventure and relaxation. Mother
Nature has blessed it with world class sugary white sand beaches, crystal
clear turquoise waters, a one-of-a-kind Bioluminescent Bay, and weather
temperatures hovering near 80ºF all year round. The best part of all, this
jewel is now protected by the Department of Fish and Wildlife which has
transformed 70% of the island into wildlife reserves. It is the largest
National Park and eco-destination in the Caribbean. Nature is the
entertainment as visitors and residents alike enjoy scuba diving,
snorkeling, mountain biking, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, swimming, and
of course, beach-going!
Logistically, Vieques is the perfect get away. Because
it is a territory of the United States with commonwealth status, the
currency is US dollars. Many residents speak English and passport and
customs are not required! It is just a twenty-minute flight from San Juan
and is easily accessible by ferry from Fajardo.
Vieques has been recognized by the media not only for its natural beauty and
ideal vacationing, but also for real estate investment. The history and the
future have aligned to make the present the perfect time to invest in
Vieques.
